DESCRIPTION
Bitumen 35/50 is a hard penetration-grade bitumen manufactured by Raha Oil Group at our Jebel Ali, UAE facility, fully compliant with EN 12591 standards. This grade is produced from vacuum residue (short residue) feedstock through fractional/vacuum distillation of crude oil, in accordance with EN ISO 9001 quality management standards.
Due to its hard consistency, Bitumen 35/50 is primarily specified for hot mix asphalt (HMA) base and wearing courses in road construction, particularly in warmer climates and high-traffic-load applications where greater stiffness is required.
Raha Oil supplies Bitumen 35/50 in new steel drums (150/180/220 kg), jumbo bags/FIBC (500 kg–1,300 kg) or Bitubag (300 kg), and bulk tanker or vessel shipments, all delivered FOB Jebel Ali with a full Certificate of Analysis (COA) and technical data sheet.
APPLICATIONS OF BITUMEN 35/50
Bitumen 35/50 is primarily used in:
– Hot mix asphalt (HMA) for highways, runways, and high-traffic pavements
– Road construction and repair in warm-climate regions
– Base and wearing courses requiring higher stiffness and resistance to deformation
– Production of other bituminous products as a base material
Being a harder penetration grade, Bitumen 35/50 offers greater resistance to rutting under heavy traffic and high temperatures compared to softer grades such as 50/70 or 60/70.
BITUMEN 35/50 VS. OTHER PENETRATION GRADES
Choosing the right bitumen grade depends on climate, traffic load, and pavement design requirements. Bitumen 35/50 is one of the harder penetration grades in the Raha Oil range, offering greater resistance to deformation under heavy loads and high temperatures compared to softer grades.
| Grade | Penetration (dmm) | Softening Point | Best Suited For |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bitumen 35/50This Grade | 35–50 | 50–58°C | Hot climates, heavy traffic, base courses |
| Bitumen 50/70 | 50–70 | 46–54°C | Moderate climates, general paving |
| Bitumen 60/70 | 60–70 | 46–54°C | Warm climates, standard road construction |
This makes Bitumen 35/50 a preferred choice for regions with high ambient temperatures and heavy-duty road infrastructure, where softer grades may deform under prolonged heat and load.

STORAGE & HANDLING RECOMMENDATIONS
To preserve the quality and performance of Bitumen 35/50, the following handling guidelines are recommended:
– Store drums and jumbo bags in a dry, covered area away from direct sunlight
– Avoid prolonged storage above 60°C, as this may accelerate oxidation and affect penetration values
– For bulk shipments, maintain tanker temperature between 150–170°C during loading to ensure proper flow without overheating
– Rotate stock on a first-in, first-out (FIFO) basis to avoid extended storage periods
– Always handle heated bitumen with appropriate PPE, as per standard safety protocols for hot bituminous materials
GUARANTY & QUALITY ASSURANCE
Every batch of Bitumen 35/50 supplied by Raha Oil Group undergoes in-house laboratory testing and independent international inspection prior to loading, in full compliance with EN 12591 requirements. Quality control batch test reports are issued before shipment, and a Certificate of Analysis (COA) accompanies every consignment.
Raha Oil Group is committed to consistent quality across all bitumen grades. For technical documentation or a shipment sample COA, please contact our export team.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS - FAQ
Bitumen 35/50 is a hard penetration grade primarily used in hot mix asphalt for road bases, wearing courses, and high-traffic pavements, especially in warmer climates.
Our Bitumen 35/50 is manufactured and tested in full compliance with EN 12591 international standards.
We supply Bitumen 35/50 in new steel drums (150/180/220 kg), jumbo bags (500–1,300 kg) or Bitubag (300 kg), and bulk shipments, all FOB Jebel Ali, UAE.
Bitumen 35/50 has a lower penetration range (35–50 dmm vs. 50–70 dmm) and a higher softening point, making it a harder grade better suited to warm climates and heavier traffic loads.
