Granulated Gilsonite
PREMIUM GRANULATED GILSONITE
"MESH SIZE 30-40 WITH ASH CONTENT RANGING FROM 0-25%"
Granulated Gilsonite with a diameter ranging from 30 to 40 meshes and ash content between zero and 25 percent is a valuable resource with diverse applications. It is utilized in asphalt paving mixes, coatings, and various chemical components found in metallurgical, adhesive, coating, binder, ink, and paint products. Additionally, it plays a crucial role in metal foundry applications, oil well drilling, and well completions.
Despite significant mining activities extracting portions of the approximately 45-million-short-ton original Gilsonite resource, there are still millions of tons untapped. The remaining resource is often located in deeper parts of veins and thinner, more remote veins, making extraction potentially more expensive than in previously mined areas.
Gilsonite mines are found in various countries worldwide, with the largest reserves located in the United States, Canada, Iran, Iraq, Russia, Venezuela, China, Australia, Mexico, Albania, and the Philippines, according to the US Geological Survey. Utah and Colorado hold the world’s largest Gilsonite reserves, estimated at 45 million tons. About 65 percent of these reserves are situated in North America (the United States and Canada), while Iran constitutes approximately 15 percent, ranking as the third-largest natural bitumen reserve globally.
