WHAT IS BULK BITUMEN PACKING

In bulk packing bulk couriers load the heated Bitumen and deliver to the destination port. Compared to other types of packing Bulk Bitumen is cheaper with less transportation costs. To unload the bulk Bitumen it should be in a liquid state. Therefore as the bulkh courier approaches the port they turn on the heater to liquefy the Bitumen. The minimum amount of transported Asphalt by each courier is one 1000 tons. Common bulk courier can usually carry 3-30 KTons of liquid Bitumen.

Bulk cargo transportation is one of the forms of mass transportation, during which large quantities of goods are loaded without packaging on special ships. Bitumen ships are designed exclusively for this purpose. In order to load and unload such ships, facilities including tanks, pipelines and pumping stations have been installed in the ports of origin and destination, and the loading and unloading process is carried out using these facilities. The minimum capacity of the bulk Asphalt ship is 1000 tons, which can be increased up to 50,000 tons. It goes without saying that small ships are not practical for long distances. Buying in bulk usually means saving money and is effective in saving our environment by using less steel sheet, plastic bags and wood, the statistics of this type of shipping is increasing.

Shipping Bitumen in bulk is the most cost-effective approach for medium to large-scale projects. It’s a budget-friendly option with favorable transportation expenses compared to other packing methods. If you’re interested in learning more about the pros and cons, shipping conditions, and purchase terms associated with bulk bitumen, check out the detailed information in the article.

BULK BITUMEN SHIPPING

Bulk bitumen transportation involves using a vessel with a minimum capacity of 1000 metric tonnes. To ensure smooth transport, it’s crucial to gather sufficient information about the vessel’s capabilities, including its ability to be transported, enter the dock, and load at the origin. The process involves trucks picking up Asphalt cargo from the refinery and transferring it to the bulk vessel at the port. Upon reaching the destination, another Asphalt truck takes over, delivering the cargo to the project location or Bitumen storage.

BULK BITUMEN CARGO LOADING RATE

Loading Bulk bitumen cargo onto vessels varies depending on their size. Smaller vessels with a capacity of around three thousand metric tons may take approximately 24 to 48 hours, while larger vessels capable of carrying up to thirty thousand metric tons might require 48 to 96 hours, translating to 2 to 4 days for the loading process.

CAPACITY

The capacity of bulk transportation is determined by the project’s needs, taking into account various factors like project conditions, location, and the quantity required for the project.

BULK BITUMEN COST

The cost of bulk bitumen is influenced by various factors such as bulk capacity, loading duration, and exchange rate fluctuations. Despite the drawback of high storage charges mentioned earlier, bulk Asphalt is cost-effective because it eliminates the need for packaging, making it more economical than options like new steel drums and jumbo bags.

TERMS OF PURCHASE

Purchase terms for bulk bitumen can be approached in two ways:

In the first scenario, the customer provides a bulk vessel. Once the Asphalt in the tank is ready for loading at the origin, we notify the customer. The vessel enters the dock and loads within 24 to 48 hours before proceeding to the destination. Alternatively, we can arrange the vessel ourselves. In this case, the ship enters the dock at a scheduled time for loading. The relevant documents are handed over to the customer as the vessel sets sail towards its destination, and the customer makes the payment accordingly.

BULK BITUMEN OFFERS SEVERAL ADVANTAGES

Cost: Bulk bitumen is devoid of any packaging, eliminating the associated packing and unpacking costs. It moves directly from the refinery to storage and then is transported via bulk vessel to the destination storage before final delivery to the project. This streamlined process results in cost savings without the need for additional packaging expenses.

Loading Duration Time: Due to its absence of packaging, bulk bitumen boasts a shorter loading duration compared to packaged conditions. This efficiency ensures rapid delivery of the cargo to its destination.

Equipment: Another advantage lies in the fact that Bulk Bitumen, being unpackaged, does not necessitate various melting methods like a decanting plant. This enables direct delivery to the project without additional operational steps, eliminating the need for special equipment for melting.

BULK BITUMEN COMES WITH ITS SET OF DRAWBAKCKS

Tonnage: While bulk bitumen proves cost-effective for large volumes, its shipping costs are tied to tonnage. The economic feasibility is evident—higher tonnage results in lower costs. However, this poses a disadvantage as it is not economical for low tonnages, making it suitable only for high tonnages in terms of cost.

The Existence of Storage Tank: Bulk bitumen can only be sent to destination ports equipped with storage tanks. This restriction means it cannot be sent anywhere, emphasizing the necessity of having a storage tank at the destination.

Transportation Facility: A significant limitation arises in the requirement for a specialized transportation facility, namely a bulk vessel. Unlike Asphalt in jumbo bags or new steel drums that can be transported by container to the destination and then transferred by truck to various project locations, bulk Asphalt trucks do not offer the same flexibility.

Storage Charge: Unlike Asphalt in drums or jumbo bags, which can be stored for extended periods and used after one or two years, bulk bitumen incurs a high storage charge if left in storage for a prolonged period upon reaching its destination. Consequently, bulk bitumen is typically used when a project is in progress, reaching the project location without being stored extensively.

ENVIROMENTAL IMPACT OF BULK BITUMEN

The environmental impact of bulk bitumen transportation raises critical concerns. Packaging plays a pivotal role in Asphalt transportation, particularly when choosing sea transport. Key considerations include addressing issues such as Asphalt leakage and the associated environmental repercussions. Notably, bulk shipping contributes significantly to greenhouse gas emissions due to the continuous heating required throughout the asphalt transportation process. This environmental aspect underscores the importance of adopting sustainable practices in the Asphalt trade industry.
