GLOBAL BITUMEN MARKET STATUS
The important feature of bitumen is its impermeability to water and its adhesion. In general, more than 100 million tons of bitumen are used in the world, of which about 40% is consumed in Asia. The share of America and the Caribbean is about 30% and 18% is consumed in European countries. Russia and CIS countries account for 7% of consumption, and Africa and Oceania together account for 5% of the total global bitumen consumption.
The global bitumen export market reached 25 million tons, valued at $15 billion, with South Korea, Singapore, Iran, Canada, and Spain leading exports. Annual global bitumen imports are around 24 million tons, with China, the U.S., India, France, and Indonesia as top importers. It should be noted that the most important factor affecting the price of bitumen is the world price of oil, which has a significant effect on the price of bitumen, because with the increase in the price of crude oil, the price of vacuum baton, which is a raw material for bitumen production, also increases. It is necessary to explain that Vacuum baton is the raw material for the production of bitumen, which is taken from the bottom of the distillation tower in the vacuum of oil refineries. TOP BITUMEN GRADES IMPORTED IN EAST ASIA
1- Direct refining bitumen or soft bitumen: This bitumen is obtained directly from distillation towers in a vacuum without additional operations, and they use the degree of permeability to classify this type of bitumen. For this reason, these bitumens are known as Pen Grade bitumen. From these types of bitumen, 70/60 bitumen and 100/80 bitumen, as well as sometimes the residue of the distillation tower in a vacuum or the vacuum baton, are classified as Pen Grade bitumen and it is called They know 200/300 bitumen. Bitumen 200/300 can be used as a raw material to produce other Pen Grade bitumen.
2- Bitumen 40/50: It is a bitumen that is obtained through the process of aeration on a vacuum baton in bitumen units, and its degree of permeability (determining the amount of bitumen hardness) is between 40 and 50. 90% of this type of bitumen is used in asphalt construction.
3- Bitumen 60/70: It is a bitumen that is obtained through vacuum aeration process in bitumen making units and its permeability is between 60 and 70. This type of bitumen, which is the most widely used bitumen grade, is used for asphalting and preparation of various coating mixtures in this industry.
4- Bitumen 85/100: It is bitumen whose degree of permeability (determination of bitumen hardness) is between 85 and 100.
5- Blown bitumen It is a type of bitumen that has undergone a polymerization reaction due to blowing air and has acquired a rubbery property. Because blown bitumen has plastic properties, it is called Rubberized Bitumen, like 90/15 and 40/100 bitumen.
6- Soluble bitumen: Soluble bitumen or cut back is obtained by dissolving pure bitumen in petroleum solvents. Soluble bitumens must have a suitable acid level to be able to stick to wet materials. Soluble bitumen is divided into three categories: quick-setting, slow-setting and slow-setting bitumen. Bitumen MC250 is one type of soluble bitumen.
7- MC bitumen: In our country, the use of MC250 bitumen is prohibited. Meanwhile, MC250 bitumen still occupies a very high volume of liquid bitumen in the country, and unfortunately, this trend will continue until the uncertain future. One of the problems of this type of liquid bitumen is environmental damages and the use of solvents. The existence of emulsion bitumen factories and its production throughout the country has made the use of MC bitumen unacceptable. However, MC250 bitumen is still widely used in the country. As mentioned, MC250 soluble bitumen is produced by mixing bitumen with the degree of penetration of petroleum hydrocarbons. The viscosity of this type of bitumen is measured using a viscosity device.
8- Emulsified bitumen: Emulsified bitumen is a mixture of water and bitumen. Bitumen is mixed with water using a chemical called an emulsifier. The resulting mixture is completely uniform and homogeneous. This bitumen is widely used in the road construction industry due to the lack of heat and water absorption by various minerals. Emulsified bitumen can be used to prepare cold asphalt. This bitumen is not flammable due to the use of water and no petroleum solvent, there is no risk of fire during its transportation and use, and it is compatible with the environment due to the use of water.
