Bitumen Emulsion CRS-2
DESCRIPTION OF CATIONIC BITUMEN EMULSION CRS-2
Cationic Bitumen Emulsion CRS-2 is a high-quality, rapid-setting asphalt emulsion. It converts swiftly to asphalt when mixed with aggregate. Categorized by electric charge and breaking rate, it destabilizes upon contact with aggregate. The setting speed depends on atmospheric conditions. Manufactured by RAHA OIL, CRS-2 is a water-based emulsion with high viscosity and fast-setting capabilities, perfect for Tack Coat applications. It’s ideal for chip sealing, sand sealing, and fog sealing with cement curing. Our CRS-2 adheres strictly to ASTM D 2397M-13, with 65% bitumen and a black hue. It’s the optimal choice for chip sealing projects, minimizing run-off due to its cationic, rapid-setting formulation and balanced viscosity.
APPLICATION OF CATIONIC BITUMEN EMULSION CRS-2
RAHA OIL‘s Cationic Bitumen Emulsion CRS-2 is specifically formulated for chip sealing applications, providing rapid-setting properties and optimal performance. Its unique formulation enables quick breaking and a carefully balanced viscosity that minimizes run-off, making it the ideal binder for routine chip sealing projects.
KEY FEATURES AND BENEFITS OF BITUMEN EMULSION CRS-2 INCLUDE:
- Enhanced Thickness: CRS-2 exhibits higher viscosity, allowing for thicker film application. This results in increased durability and longevity of the treated surface.
- Quick Traffic Restoration: Following application, CRS-2 enables a swift restoration of traffic, minimizing disruptions and improving project efficiency.
- Hot Temperature Suitability: CRS-2 performs exceptionally well in hot temperature conditions, making it a reliable choice for projects conducted in high-temperature environments.
- No Runoff: The carefully balanced viscosity of CRS-2 helps prevent runoff, ensuring optimal adhesion and effectiveness of the emulsion on the treated surface.
- Crack Sealing: CRS-2 effectively seals narrow cracks, providing protection against moisture penetration, which helps extend the lifespan of the pavement.
- Slippage Prevention: By forming a secure bond between layers, CRS-2 prevents slippage planes and enhances the structural integrity of the surface.
In addition to chip sealing, Bitumen Emulsion CRS-2 finds application in various surface treatment projects, including single surface treatment, multiple surface treatment, sand seal, surface dressing, grouting, and penetration macadam. With its versatile capabilities, RAHA OIL Bitumen Emulsion CRS-2 proves to be a reliable choice for a range of surface treatment applications.
APPLICATIONSOF THE CRS-2
- Surface Dressing: Surface dressing involves the application of one or two coats, comprising a layer of bituminous binder sprayed onto a properly prepared base, followed by the application of stone chips that are rolled to form a durable wearing course. The RS-2 type cationic bitumen emulsion is highly suitable for surface dressing, particularly for shoulder areas and protecting freshly laid base courses. The recommended application rate for a two-coat surface dressing, as per (MORTH&H) clause 510.2, ranges from 28 to 32 kg per 10 square meters.
- Grouting: For cost-effective construction of low-volume roads, the HPCPL CRS-2 cationic bitumen emulsion can be applied on the laid and compacted aggregates to create a combined base and wearing course. This application can even be carried out when the stone layer is damp, offering convenience and flexibility in construction.
- Penetration Macadam: Penetration macadam involves the construction of one or more layers of compacted coarse crushed aggregates, with alternating applications of bituminous binder and key aggregates. It serves as a reliable base course on roads, meeting the requirements of the overall pavement design.
- Sand Seal: Sand seal is a bituminous sand application used on existing pavement surfaces to seal and protect the surface while also providing a light-wearing course. This application helps maintain and enhance the longevity of the pavement.
These applications showcase the versatility of this product, allowing for its effective use in various road construction and maintenance projects, ensuring durability and optimal performance.
APPLICATION GUIDELINE
TO ENSURE SUCCESSFUL APPLICATION, FOLLOW THESE GUIDELINES:
- Surface Preparation: Prior to application, thoroughly clean, prime, and tack the pavement surface to promote proper adhesion.
- Weather Considerations: Avoid applying CRS-2 if precipitation is expected, as it may affect the effectiveness of the application. Contact a RAHA OIL Marketing representative for specific temperature guidelines before application.
DESIGN GUIDELINES
It is crucial to develop designs before initial production and whenever aggregate sources are changed. Conducting testing on the final product is highly recommended to ensure a high-quality seal. RAHA OIL Technical Services provides comprehensive design services and product quality analysis to support your project.
Pothole Patching: When repairing potholes, ensure proper bonding between the asphalt edge and the patching material. Apply a uniform coating of tack on the edges surrounding the pothole. Then, apply CRS-2 evenly to all sides of the hole at a rate of approximately 0.20 to 0.25 liters per square meter (0.04 to 0.06 gallons per square yard).
Spray Patching: For the repair of deteriorated areas on the pavement surface, utilize spray patching. This method involves alternating applications of CRS-2 and aggregate. It can also be employed to fix depressions caused by rutting or ravelling in the road. The excellent adhesion of CRS-2 ensures longer-lasting repairs.
Single and Multiple Chip Seals: For durable and long-lasting surface treatments, implement controlled applications of CRS-2 asphalt emulsion on a prepared surface. Follow this with a controlled application of single-sized, washed chip aggregate per lift. The aggregate sizes should range from 6 mm (¼ inch) to 19 mm (¾ inch). This combination provides increased resistance to rutting and low-temperature cracking, resulting in enhanced performance.
