BITUMEN PENETRATION 40/60
Bitumen Penetration 40/60 is a standard penetration grade Bitumen usually used as a Paving Grade Bitumen suitable for road construction and for the production of asphalt pavements with superior properties. This grade of Bitumen is mainly used in the manufacture of hot mix asphalt for bases and wearing courses. Penetration Bitumen supplied by RAHA OIL is petroleum grade bitumen, manufactured from fractional / vacuum distillation of crude oil. The Bitumen supplied by RAHA OIL is produced from vacuum residue (short residue) feedstock. Penetration Grade bitumens are specified by the penetration and softening point test. The designation is by penetration range only. The penetration grade bitumens have a thermoplastic property which causes the material to soften at high temperatures and to harden at lower temperatures. This unique temperature/ viscosity relationship is important when determining the performance parameters such as the adhesion, rheology, durability and application temperatures of bitumen. Bitumen Penetration 40/60 is manufactured with selected crude oils inefficient production processes that are undertaken in accordance with quality management standards EN ISO 9001. PROPERTIES OF ASPHALT 40/60
Bitumen Penetration 40/60 supplied by RAHA OIL is pure petroleum grade bitumen, manufactured from vacuum bottom by passing hot air. The bitumen supplied by RAHA OIL is produced from remain of crude oil after cracking and removing hydrocarbon. Penetration grade bitumen 40-60 has penetration between 40~60 desi-millimeter and the softening point between 48~ 56 C. The penetration grade bitumen 40/60 has a thermoplastic property which is like synthetic resin material which gets softer with heating and hardens when cooled. Penetration grade bitumens are specified by the penetration and softening point test. The temperature-vs-stiffness relationship of bitumen is dependent on the source of crude oil and the method of refining. Bitumen Penetration 40/60 is hard penetration grade bitumen using as paving grade bitumen suitable for road construction and repair also for the production of asphalt pavements with below technical specifications.
APPLICATION OF ASPHALT 40/60
The Bitumen Penetration 40/60 is a semi-hard penetration grade, with penetration between 40 and 60. Which is mostly used in road construction, asphalt pavement, and manufacturer of hot-mix asphalt. The penetration bituminous asphalt with high penetration numbers which are soft, mostly used in cold weather conditions and hard bituminous asphalt (low penetration number) can be used for warm weather conditions.
THE 4 MAJOR TEST OF BITUMEN 40/50
1.PENETRATION TEST: It measures the hardness or softness of Bitumen by measuring the depth in tenths of a millimeter to which a standard loaded needle will penetrate vertically in 5 seconds. BIS had standardised the equipment and test procedure. A grade of 40/50 bitumen means the penetration value is in the range 40 to 50 at standard test conditions. In hot climates, a lower penetration grade is preferred.
2.SOFTENING POINT TEST: Softening point denotes the temperature at which the bitumen attains a particular degree of softening under the specifications of test. The test is conducted by using Ring and Ball apparatus. Also Temperature is noted when the softened bitumen touches the metal plate which is at a specified distance below. Generally, higher softening point indicates lower temperature susceptibility and is preferred in hot climates.
3.DUCTILITY TEST: Ductility is the property of bitumen that permits it to undergo great deformation or elongation. Ductility is defined as the distance in cm, to which a standard sample or briquette of the material will be elongated without breaking.
4.VISCOSITY TEST: Viscosity denotes the fluid property of the bituminous material and it is a measure of resistance to flow. At the application temperature, this characteristic greatly influences the strength of resulting paving mixes. Low or high viscosity during compaction or mixing has been observed to result in lower stability values.

PACKING OF BITUMEN 40/60
Paving Bitumen 40/60 is commonly packed in new steel drums, 150, 180 & 220 Kg barrels and 1MT and 500Kg Jumbo Bags or 300kg Bitubag. Likewise, the rest of the grades are ready to load Ex-work bulk by truck.
