Description of Caustic Soda
Caustic soda is one of the common names for sodium hydroxide. Its common name derives from its chemical identity as a sodium hydrate and because it is caustic or corrosive. Sodium hydroxide or NaOH is a white solid substance with the chemical formula NaOH and it is obtained through the process of electrolysis of sodium chloride soluble in the electrolytic containers.
Caustic soda is the most popular alkali in the world. For industrial needs, around 55.5 million tons of it is manufactured. It is classified in the group of strong chemical bases, as it completely dissociates (dissolves) in water.
Caustic soda is a relatively simple man-made chemical compound. It is comprised of one sodium (Na), one oxygen (O) and one hydrogen (H) atom, which is why it’s also referred to as sodium hydroxide bearing the chemical symbol “NaOH.” Caustic soda flake is probably the lesser-known product of the Chloralkali process, which is the electrolysis procedure used to free chlorine (Cl) from the sodium chloride (NaCl) found in salt brine. When chemical manufacturers produce chlorine, they also end up producing a comparable amount of caustic soda, which is in many ways as useful as its chemical counterpart.
It is available in many forms in the industry, and the most common forms are caustic soda flake and caustic soda pearls. Sodium hydroxide as a strong base, is considered from one of the most important industrial chemicals and strong absorbent of moisture.
Caustic Soda properties
Caustic Soda is probably the lesser-known product of the Chloralkali process, which is the electrolysis procedure used to free chlorine (Cl) from the sodium chloride (NaCl) found in salt brine. When chemical manufacturers produce chlorine, they also end up producing a comparable amount of caustic soda, which is in many ways as useful as its chemical counterpart.
It is important to recognize that the terms “caustic soda,” “sodium hydroxide” and “lye” all refer to the same chemical compound of NaOH. These terms are used interchangeably throughout the industry and throughout this guide.
Caustic soda is a highly corrosive base or alkaline chemical widely utilized in several different industries. Some common uses include organic chemical production, cosmetic production, soaps & detergent production, paint manufacturing, paper and cellulose, textile bleaching, glass and ceramic manufacturing, food processing, manufacturing rayon, fuel cell production, water treatment, and plumbing (drain cleaners often contain lye).
Soda caustic or burning soda is a white solid material with a melting temperature of 1390 ° C and a density of 13.2 g/cm3. Although the melting point of caustic soda is high, the material is highly soluble in water and when it has a light color in solution state. Solving NaOH in water is an exothermic process. When caustic soda is solved in water, the obtained solution has a high PH and is very slippery. Generally, when it is solved in water, creates more corrosion.
Caustic Soda Uses
Due to caustic soda factors, it has used in many different industries.
In the food industry:
- Milk industry,
- Canning,
- Olive sweetening,
- Water treatment,
- Chocolate production,
- Cocoa and caramel production,
- Vegetable and fruit washing,
- Soft drinks,
- Oil refining,
- Sugar production
In the metal and electroplating industries:
- Metal, zinc, aluminum, galvanizing and electroplating, glass.
Battery industry and neutralize the acid and battery, The Pharmaceutical industry. Alcohol and cosmetics, Industry consuming fatty, leather and textile industry and Dyeing industry, Oil, gas and petrochemical industry, Cardboard and paper industry, Leaf profit (caustic soda) pack, Drilling Mud, Detergent and Soap Making, Biodiesel, Aluminum etching, Domestic uses, Tissue digestion, Delignification of cellulosic materials and, Pulp and paper.
Caustic Soda Shipping Process
It has been classified as DG Goods IMCO 8 in shipping process and we us UN 1823 sticks on containers. All suppliers use 20 Ft. containers for transportation. As our caustic soda factories are located in Iran in the Middle East, one of the main hubs of logistics in the world, we have great access to all transportation routes to the globe especially CIS countries, Middle East countries, Europe, and Africa by truck, train and vessel, and can dispatch our products immediately to any country in the world with cost-effective rates, and deliver the goods to your final destination so that you can enjoy your purchase from our factory smoothly.
We can ship to Asian countries like Vietnam, Indonesia, South Korea, and Sri Lanka in less than 20 days by vessel. We can ship to CIS countries like Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and Georgia in less than 2 days by truck.
caustic soda flakes shipments to South American countries such as Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, and Peru also take place in less than 3 weeks. We can also ship sodium hydroxide to the heart of Europe like Italy, Greece, Serbia, Romania, Belarus and Russia in less than 2 weeks. We also ship to African countries like Tanzania, Kenya, Nigeria and Ethiopia within 2 weeks by vessel.
Caustic Soda Packing
There are different kind of packing for industrial NaOH, since it is chemical product better to pack in 25 kgs 2 layer laminate PP bag and don’t allow any water to moisture enter the bag , also for transportation and reducing labor charges we can put bags in 1250 Kg jumbo bag or 1250 Kg pallets are possible too.
Food grade caustic soda flake ship in safe metal container which keep away soda from moisture and humid condition, Hydroxide is hydrophilic which means that it not only attracts moisture and water but it actively absorbs any moisture or water to which it is exposed.
